Join the BLG for part three of its Charting Your Legal Future Series. This half day retreat/conference will provide participating law students of color with critical information about succeeding in a career in law.

Students should be prepared to ask questions, network, and hear advice from a variety of panelists.

  • Securing Your 2L summer position

    • 1L registrants will hear tips directly from recruiters about strategies to securing a 2L summer position, including specific guidance on the timeline, the pros and cons of trying to obtain an early offer, red flags recruiters see with application materials, how to learn about an organization’s culture & values, and more.

  • How to succeed in your summer position

    • 2L registrants will hear directly from members of Hiring Committees about how 2L summers are assessed, including guidance on making a good first impression, how to recover from a mistake, how to get advice about expectations and unwritten rules, and examples of characteristics of successful summer associates. This will be a good opportunity for 2Ls to go into their 2024 summer positions equipped with further strategies to succeed.

  • Practical advice and strategies for succeeding in your legal career

    • All registrants will hear advice on effective communication, setting realistic boundaries, establishing mentors, building community and networks, strategies to establish yourself as reliable and trustworthy, more. This will be helpful as you prepare for your eventual transition from law student to young lawyer.

  • Establishing wellbeing habits and healthy boundaries based upon where you are in your career

    • Attendees will hear a short presentation about destigmatizing stress and anxiety, resources and support available, and a conversation about establishing healthy habits early on in one’s career.

The panel will be followed by a networking lunch.
