2023 Summer Associate (JD24) Scholarship

ArentFox Schiff LLP is accepting applications for our Diversity Scholarship from second year law students for its 2023 Summer Program. The firm will award one Summer Associate a $20,000 Diversity Scholarship in addition to the salaried position in the Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco offices. The scholarship will be paid in two installments: $10,000 during the second-year summer and another $10,000 payable when the student returns to ArentFox Schiff as an associate after graduation.

2023 Summer Program.  Summer at ArentFox Schiff is a time for you to get to know us and for us to get to know you!

Summer associates at ArentFox Schiff quickly discover why our program is unique. Based on personal interests and workflow, our summer associates work on a wide range of assignments with ArentFox Schiff attorneys from around the country. Our work teams are small, and typically one partner and one associate work together. That means associates have early exposure both to clients and to important, substantive work, including appearing in court and participating in negotiations. And of course there’s time for fun too.

Summer associates leave the program with a solid understanding of the opportunities available to them after law school and a great sense of the people they’ll be working with. Our culture, team approach, professional training, and social opportunities are why ArentFox Schiff stands apart.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We are committed to actively opposing discrimination of all forms and types. We value giving back to our community and building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Diversity to us is not just about the numbers. It's about creating an environment where everyone feels welcome, empowered, and free to be their authentic selves.

Hiring Criteria. We look for candidates with varied backgrounds and experiences who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement; a record of leadership and achievement in school, work, and extracurricular and community activities; strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills; the ability to work independently and on a team; and the drive to gain experience and succeed in a client service business.  ArentFox Schiff defines diversity broadly to include differently abled, first generation, gender, LGBTQ+, race, religion, and veterans.

Applicants should be committed to working in a large law firm following law school graduation. Prior work experience is a plus. Candidates must be attending an ABA-accredited law school in the United States.  Please include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript and legal writing sample.

To be considered for the Diversity Scholarship, please submit the Required Application Materials, along with a Personal Essay (one page single or double spaced) that responds to this prompt:

Shirley Chisholm famously said, ‘if they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.’ One of Harvey Milk’s best-known quotes is, ‘rights are won only by those who make their voices heard.’ What would be your personal quote, and how does it describe and relate to your experience as a diverse person?”
