On behalf of nearly 50 legal organizations that make up the
membership of The Boston Lawyers Group (BLG), I welcome you to our
newly enhanced website. For more than 20 years with the support of
our premiere member organizations, we have continued to play an
important role in leading our collaborative consortium to discover
innovative approaches to identify, recruit, advance and retain legal
talent of color in Boston's legal community.
We are also pleased to announce that we have been warmly welcomed to
our new home at Robinson & Cole's Boston office until 2012. This so
aptly demonstrates their commitment, as one of our founding firms,
to support our work to achieve a more diverse legal community for
Boston.
Please take a few minutes to view BLG’s exciting agenda, including
the program offerings we have for our leadership, attorneys and
students of color. In the near future we will post interviews of
some of our members. We believe they will provide you with
interesting insight into diversity and workplace inclusion, as tools
to support retention.
The generosity of spirit on display by the legal community even in
these tumultuous economic times is a wonderful testament to the
possibilities that exist when we come together to work towards
common goals.
Please join us so that together the future for a diverse Boston
legal community is a reality.
Many regards,
Carolyn

MENTOR PROGRAM KICK-OFF RECEPTION
The Mentor Program provides an opportunity
for students to develop a one-on-one
relationship with an attorney from one of
the BLG member organizations, and expand
their networking contacts in Boston's legal
community.
While most corporate law departments and law
firms recognize the benefits of diversity
and inclusion, they continue to struggle
with how to develop and retain minority
attorneys, and how to make the profession
more diverse. The issue is clearly
back in focus following The American
Lawyer's 2010 Diversity ScoreCard, published
in March. The ScoreCard revealed a
material drop in the number of minority
attorneys working in Am Law 200/NLJ 250 law
firms in 2009. General reductions are

The mission of the Boston
Lawyers Group (BLG) is to support the efforts of its member
organizations to identify, recruit, advance and retain
attorneys of color. Innovation and collaboration are the key
elements of BLG’s foundation. BLG's members are ultimately
responsible for turning their organization's objectives into
action. Each member gathers information through the
consortium and takes steps independently to achieve the goal
of greater diversity in their organization.
